Combatting Tooth Decay in Children

In the latest research, dentists and researchers recommend that parents should use toothpastes that contain fluoride at a minimum concentration of 1,000 parts per million to prevent tooth decay in children’s teeth. Preventing tooth decay can help reduce the need for extensive and costly dental treatments, including but not exclusive to tooth decay, extractions, gum disease, and root canals. In adults, tooth decay can also lead to serious perio diseases, including gum diseases, that could affect long terms health, such as heart attack.

In another study, data suggested that parents concerned about the risk of fluorosis, the discolouration or mottling of the teeth caused by excessive fluoride ingestion, should consult their dentist to discuss the benefits and risks.
